Liposuction Procedure
Here at the accredited hospital facilities in Queensland, Dr. James Gaffield uses the tumescent liposuction technique, which is regarded as one of the safest approaches. Tumescent liposuction involves the initial injection of a saline solution into the area targeted for fat removal. This assists in the emulsion of the fatty layer. Thin metal tubes called cannulas are inserted into tiny incisions made in the target area, and gently moved back and forth, suctioning out deposits of fat. Depending on the area being treated, liposuction typically takes an hour or two to complete and will be performed under general anaesthesia as an inpatient at the Friendly Society Private Hospital.
Liposuction Recovery
There will be some bruising and swelling after liposuction. Dr Gaffield can prescribe medication to help manage any residual discomfort. Patients can generally resume normal activities after about a week; however, if the size of the area being treated is large, full recovery may take up to six weeks. The full results of liposuction may take several months to become apparent. Patients should avoid very strenuous activities for at least one month after the procedure however are encouraged to commence walking and massaging almost immediately post procedure.
