Chin Enhancement in Queensland from our Cosmetic Plastic Surgeon
If you feel the shape of your chin is out of proportion with your other facial features, chin enhancement at our Queensland facilities, can help. Chin augmentation for Bundaberg and Mackay-area patients serves to recontour the chin to make it more or less prominent, giving the entire face a more balanced aesthetic. Dr. James Gaffield can fit you with a chin implant or reduce the size of the chin to meet your enhancement goals.
Chin Enhancement
For some individuals, the shape of the chin can make other facial features appear too large or too small, affecting the overall facial aesthetic as well as the appearance of the neck. Chin enhancement from our Queensland plastic surgeon is designed to address these issues by augmentation with an implant for a more prominent chin or by resculpting a large chin to make it appear smaller. Dr. James Gaffield can perform this procedure at any of our Pacific Plastic Surgery or Elite Cosmetic Clinic locations. Chin enhancement is often combined with rhinoplasty and/or lip augmentation to provide even greater improvement of balance among facial features.

Chin Augmentation Procedure
For patients with a recessed chin or a prominent nose, chin augmentation (enlargement) can bring the facial features into better proportion. Candidates for chin augmentation are typically those patients who are in reasonably good health and who do not suffer from high blood pressure or cardiac problems. Those who have taken Accutane® in the past six months or are presently on anticoagulants are advised not to undergo the procedure.
The procedure begins with a discreet incision made either inside the mouth or underneath the chin itself. Dr. Gaffield will position a silicone implant on the tip of the jawbone, and ensure that the enlarged chin is in proportion with the other features of the face. The incision is then closed. Chin augmentation at our Bundaberg or Mackay-area facility typically takes about an hour and is performed on an outpatient basis. Dr. James Gaffield will discuss all aspects of the procedure with you at your initial consultation.
Chin Reduction Procedure
Reshaping the chin and making it appear smaller is another chin enhancement procedure we offer here in Queensland. Chin reduction can do wonders for those who feel the chin is too large in proportion to other facial features. Candidates for chin reduction are patients who are at least 20 years old and those who do not suffer from bone disorders and certain medical conditions. Dr. Gaffield will discuss your candidacy with you at your chin reduction consultation.
During chin reduction, Dr. Gaffield will make an incision either underneath the chin or inside the mouth. He will then use special instruments to remove the tip of the chin and recontour the bone. The tip is then wired back in place and the incisions closed. Any concerns you may have about the procedure will be discussed with you in detail at your first meeting with Dr. Gaffield.
Chin Enhancement Recovery
Patients can expect some swelling for several weeks after chin enhancement from our Queensland plastic surgeon. Strenuous activity should be avoided for at least two weeks after the procedure. Any residual pain or discomfort can be managed with medication. Dr. Gaffield will explain the specific details involving recovery from chin augmentation or chin reduction surgery at your initial consultation.
