Male Breast Reduction Procedure
Although some cases of gynecomastia, mainly those caused by obesity, can be treated with dieting, male breast reduction surgery is often the most effective treatment. The procedure will vary between patients depending on whether the breasts are composed of mostly glandular or fatty tissue. In many cases, Dr. James Gaffield will make small incisions, usually in the underarm areas, and surgically remove excess breast tissue, and tighten the remaining skin. Liposuction may also be used. Male breast reduction at our Queensland facilities typically last from one to two hours and are performed under general anesthesia on an outpatient basis.
Male Breast Reduction Recovery
Patients can expect some discomfort, bruising, and swelling in the treated areas for several days following surgery; however this can be managed with medication. In a small number of cases, there may be permanent numbness in the chest area; however, this is rare. Dr. Gaffield will explain all the risks and benefits of male breast reduction at your initial consultation. Patients typically resume normal daily routines about two weeks after surgery.
